Peninsula Oncology Centre Services
Repeat Prescriptions
As we encourage patients to keep in close contact with their General Practitioner, we suggest that normal repeat prescriptions, Sickness Benefit and Superannuation forms be written by them. However, some prescriptions can only be written by your Oncologist and we ask that these are requested at the time of your consultation.
Emergencies
While you are receiving chemotherapy or radiotherapy you will receive information regarding the management and monitoring of possible side-effects. Should you experience any of these outside our normal working hours (8am–5pm Mon–Fri, excluding public holidays) you can do one of the following:
- Contact your General Practitioner who will have received a copy of your treatment plan and may be able to assist with the management of symptoms you may be experiencing
- Contact Nurse-on-Call on 1300 60 60 24 for advice on any health issues which may occur outside our normal operating hours
- In an emergency, or if your condition deteriorates rapidly, call 000.
Pastoral Services
Pastoral Services offers a listening presence to enable patients/relatives to voice concerns about the stress of situations they may find themselves in such as making decisions about future care, or losses as a result of ill health.
Allied Services
At times there may be a requirement to be referred for extra care such as:
- Dietary and Nutritional advice
- Clinical Psychologist
- Palliative Care for pain management
- Lymphoedema therapy
Most of these services are covered by your private health insurance.
St. John of God Oncology Program
A rehabilitation outpatient oncology program aimed at people who may have experienced adverse side effects of treatment, fatigue, anxiety, pain or general deconditioning following diagnosis or treatment for cancer.
