Financial Information

Peninsula Oncology Centre is a registered private hospital and when you come here for treatment, you will be admitted as a private patient. As you will be admitted and discharged on the same day, your stay will be classed as a “Same Day” admission.

As a private hospital, we rely entirely on your health fund to pay for the services that you receive as a patient in this centre. We do not receive any funding from Medicare or the Government.

We have entered into contracts with a number of major health funds to provide hospital treatment for their members. These contracts have been structured so that health fund members are limited in what they have to pay themselves for the treatment at Peninsula Oncology Centre. In most cases, the patient will not have to pay anything from their own pocket. All Veteran’s Affairs patients will be bulk billed.

However, there are some types of health cover that require the member to pay a portion of the hospital charges out of their own pocket. Such charges can include:
  • Excesses – If your health cover has an excess component, you will be required to pay the excess before your health fund makes any payment to Peninsula Oncology Centre
  • Co-payments or moieties – If your health cover has a co-payment, you will be required to pay the amount of the co-payment for each and every visit that you make to the centre. This can be done via Eftpos, if required, on the day of treatment. A typical example is where the cover has a $50 co-payment, which means that each time you are admitted to Peninsula Oncology Centre, you will have to pay $50 yourself, and your health fund will pay the balance of the treatment fee
The reason that the health funds pay Peninsula Oncology Centre a fee for treatment of their members is that, as a hospital, we provide you with a number of services, all of which have to be paid for.
These services include:
  • Nursing services
  • Medications & Pharmacy Services
  • Medical records
  • Government licensing and mandatory reporting
  • Facility costs, including equipment, heating, lighting, air conditioning, cleaning, etc.
  • Administrative support services
  • Accreditation with recognised bodies
We do our best to make sure that the centre is run efficiently and as inexpensively as possible so that we can offer you, as a patient, excellent services at the lowest possible cost. We also endeavour to provide a facility that is pleasant and comfortable so that you can achieve the best outcomes for yourself.

Uninsured Patients
All costs incurred for treatment need to be paid for on the day. Apart from the charge for a day admission, you may also receive a bill for pharmacy and some pathology services. You will receive a detailed quotation of the costs involved prior to commencing treatment.
