New Patient Information – Requirements

Referrals
A referral from a Specialist to one of our Oncologists is valid for three months. In order for your ongoing management to continue and for you to be able to receive payment from Medicare, it is important that all referrals are kept up-to-date. Your General Practitioner is the only person who can give a referral for twelve months or longer.

Before You Arrive
Obtain an up-to-date list of your current medications from your General Practitioner or local Pharmacist. Please bring this medication list with you on your day of treatment.

Should you be taking any complementary or alternative medicines please let your Oncologist know during your consultation.

Check your insurance details:
  • If you have private health cover, we suggest you contact your health fund to confirm that your treatment is covered, and if there are any co-payments/excesses which apply to your treatment.
  • If you are uninsured or self-insured, please contact our Finance Department for an estimated cost of treatment which is payable prior to treatment.
What To Bring With You
  • Any doctor’s letters, reports, notes, consent forms
  • All relevant x-rays and scans
  • Health Care card, Pharmaceutical Safety Net card
  • Health Fund card, DVA card for veterans
  • Medicare card and Pensioner concession card

When You Arrive
Unless you are instructed otherwise, it is usual for you to present to Level 2, Peninsula Oncology Centre, where you will have a routine blood test, unless you have had one taken the previous day and the results are satisfactory. You may also be required to be reviewed by your Oncologist prior to commencing chemotherapy treatments.

Our Oncologists are situated in the consulting suites on Level 3.
